Job Description

We are looking for a skilled Full-Stack Software Engineer (Laravel) to join Tourlast in Nairobi. The role involves developing, maintaining, and improving our travel technology platforms across the Laravel/PHP backend and Vue/Inertia frontend. The successful candidate will take ownership of features from development and testing through to QA and production, working within a live booking and property management environment.

Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain features using Laravel/PHP, Vue, Inertia.js, TypeScript, and Livewire.
  • Own features end-to-end, including implementation, testing, debugging, and handover to QA.
  • Work on booking flows, availability/inventory systems, and payment integrations such as Paystack and Stripe.
  • Develop and maintain background jobs, queues, events, and asynchronous workflows.
  • Design and optimize MySQL/PostgreSQL databases, schemas, queries, and Eloquent relationships.
  • Debug production issues, including third-party API and payment integration failures.
  • Contribute to modernization of legacy systems and migration from Blade to Vue/Inertia.
  • Participate in code reviews and architecture discussions.
  • Identify and address security vulnerabilities.
  • Collaborate closely with QA to deliver stable, production-ready software.
  • Work across different Laravel versions, including Laravel 9–13.

Requirements

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, or a related field.
  • 3+ years of professional experience with Laravel/PHP.
  • Strong understanding of Laravel architecture, including middleware, service providers, service container, queues, and events.
  • Strong experience with Laravel Jobs, Events/Listeners, queue workers, and Redis/database queue drivers.
  • Proficiency in JavaScript, TypeScript, and Vue.
  • Experience with Inertia.js; Livewire experience is an advantage.
  • Experience integrating Paystack and/or Stripe payment gateways.
  • Strong SQL skills, including database design, migrations, and query optimization.
  • Good understanding of web security, authentication, authorization, and common vulnerabilities.
  • Knowledge of RESTful APIs and third-party API integrations.
  • Experience with Git and collaborative pull-request workflows.
  • Ability to independently scope, develop, test, and deliver features.
  • Ability to work confidently on ambiguous tasks with minimal supervision. 

Added Advantage:
Experience in travel technology/OTA systems, automated testing with PHPUnit or Pest, CI/CD, AWS, or modernizing legacy Laravel applications.
